Morning Prayer

sacred gesture

Blessed are you, Creator of the Universe. After a night of viewing the moon and a million stars, our earth turns so that we might look with wonder upon a single star, the sun. Large and orange it appears, as in turquoise twilight the sunrise leaves behind the darkness of space at dawn. Silent and golden, the rising sun fills the new summer day. May I, in a fullness of silence, a silence that leaves no room for fear, be one with you.

period of silent prayer or meditation

May my personal prayer be one with the prayer of your children Israel on this the Sabbath day. May my prayer rise like incense along with all prayers addressed to you, the God of Abraham and Sarah.

a psalm, spiritual reading or personal prayer

Your love, O God, has been my tent this past night. As this new day begins in that love, may I taste your tenderness and care. Full-bodied and green are the leaves of trees that know no five-day week. Their labors ceaselessly create oxygen as a free gift for all, so that life might abound on this small green planet. May I also labor tirelessly to create a world of peace and harmony so that life may abound. I pray now for these intentions:_______.

Whatever this day holds for me, may I embrace it as sacrament and gift. In play or work, may I ever travel the pilgrim's path to you, O God. Restrain my desire to rush eagerly from one task to another. Slow me down that I may not miss the mysteries of your presence hidden in this warm summer day.

I bow before you, Divine Father, Holy Mother,

Eternal Source of my existence.

Your heart is my home,

from you I have come

and to you I journey this day.

Evening Prayer

sacred gesture

O you who are Lifemy very being, my peace and my joyyou who are my hope, my wealth and my strength, I bow before you as this week of seven days concludes. Our daystar is disappearing as I again turn outward to view a starscape of such vastness that it is beyond the grasp of my mind. You are my home, my place of rest, my heaven, my salvation. You are the source of all the work of my hands and all the gifts of this week now ending. I pause to recall from my memory the days of this week....

O Divine Magnet who draws me ever to yourself, make my heart still and overflowing with gratitude at the memories of these past seven days, as I now enter in to the prayer of silence.

period of silent prayer or meditation

O you who hear all sounds as one sound, all songs as one song, listen now as I sing of my love for you.

a psalm, spiritual reading or personal prayer

How quickly has this week passed, the days and nights now fused as one. Just so quickly will my life reach its fullness, like ripe fruit upon the vine, heavy upon thc limb.

I prayerfully place before you these intentions:_______. I also pray for those who labor this night that the rest of us may be secure and may relax and enjoy the pleasures of life. May they know that their labors help make possible the divine gift of joy for all who are at leisure.

Warm Saturday night, electric with music and play, feasting and celebration, may you praise the God of joy who delights in the loves and pleasures of our lives.

I bow before you, Divine Father, Holy Mother,

Eternal Source of my existence.

Your heart is my home,

from you I have come

and to you I journey this night.
