Morning Prayer

sacred gesture

I bow before you in adoration, O my God, on this first day of the week, the day of your son Jesus' resurrection from the dead. The earth also rises to new life this morning and has turned round once again to face the sun. Yet I hear not a sound; silent to my ears is the revitalizing energy of the roaring nuclear furnace of our daystar, the sun. You too, my God, are silent, yet the sole source of my life. I seek your quiet presence in my life as I now descend into the cave of my heart to be one with you.

period of silent prayer or meditation

On this Sunday may I be aflame with love for you, my Beloved, like the sun which praises you with fire and light. I unite myself with all those who have set aside this day as holy, as I now lift up my heart to you in prayer.

a psalm, spiritual reading or personal prayer

I rejoice in this season of warmth and growth, so full of life. As plants and animals soak up the sun's life-energy, may I absorb your Life this day in countless ways. On this day of rest from work, may I find healing in the absence of my usual duties. By the touch of leisure, may I be restored in creativity and new vision. As I worship you on this summer day, may my heart dance in wonder at all that you have ever made and all you are bringing forth in this moment.

Present in my heart this morning are my concerns for the needs of:_______, as well as my own needs for:_______. May I be one this day with all believers and with all unbelievers, with peoples of all religions and races. Grant me a holy unity with all living beings, with life in every shape and form.

I bow before you, Divine Father, Holy Mother,

Eternal Source of my existence.

Your heart is my home,

from you I have come

and to you I journey this day.

Evening Prayer

sacred gesture

As the darkness of space slowly enfolds the earth and the light of the sun disappears, I come before you, O God, to conclude this day of pilgrimage. I marvel that since this time last summer, the earth, in company with her sun and the other planets, has traveled outward over 300 million miles into the uncharted darkness of space. As your pilgrim, I also have traveled closer this day to my destination in you, my hidden God. I pause now to be consciously one with you as I enter into silent prayer.

period of silent prayer or meditation

The summer night is filled with sounds of life. I add my voice to them with a song of devotion and love.

a psalm, spiritual reading or personal prayer

The earth is traveling on a threefold mystical journey, as it whirls in the dance of day and night, makes its annual pilgrimage around the source of its life, the sun, and moves outward into boundless space. I too have traveled this day on my pilgrim's path. I pause to examine whether on my way I have failed to remember who I am and how I am to respond if I would be faithful to you, my God....

In your pattern of absolution which is unconditional and without end, I grant pardon to all who have caused me pain or injury. May tomorrow find me more awake to the Way and to your presence in all of life.

Grant me a sleep of refreshment, a rest that heals and restores the body and freshens my soul. I entrust into your holy hands and heart the following intentions:_______. And when the earth has completed its circle-journey and again faces the sun, I look forward to once again sitting in your silence, one with you in the prayer of love.

I bow before you, Divine Father, Holy Mother,

Eternal Source of my existence.

Your heart is my home,

from you I have come

and to you I journey this night.
